Brian Solis, ‘Putting the Public Back in Public Relations’: Review and Giveaway

February 17, 2010 Comments

As anyone who follows my tweets will tell you, I’m a big fan of Brian’s thinking and really enjoyed this week’s book that he wrote with industry leader, Deirdre Breakenridge, called Putting the Public Back in Public Relations.

Brian and Deirdre deep dive into the future of PR techniques in the social media and web 2.0 world. They detail with great cases studies how to achieve results that were virtually unimaginable before, explaining how to use platforms like Twitter and Facebook to build more meaningful relationships with your target audience, as well as reaching out to a new generation of influencers.

For me, it’s an essential read for anyone who wants a career in PR or who wants to build their online brand through deeper, lasting relationships, use PR tools more effectively (like press releases) and measure results in a way that shows you how to move forward. Great stuff and, as always, super smart thinking.

Congrats also to last weeks winner @sherrett who will shortly be receiving a copy of Sally Hogshead’s, Fascinate. Thanks for all your great comments.

Great, Cynthia. It's such a great read to get your head into where the industry is headed. Yes, lines are blurring. Who's to say what we'll call ourselves in years to come! Best of luck, Simon

I'm not too well versed on the PR side of marketing, but it seems like they have an incredible opportunity to take advantage of the web and social media. It seems like it would be a lot more fun these days with the fragmentation of media into a zillion blogs, rather than playing an all or nothing gamble with the big media publications.

Thanks, Charles. You're right. Social media presents an enormous opportunity for PR. You can be so specific and targeted. Thanks, Simon
